Hello Khardine and welcome to your first time on the blog.
What’s your book about?
The book is a romantic suspense/ comedy about two childhood friends, turned enemies, who rekindle their friendship and fall in love.
Who is the central character and what problem are they trying to solve?
The central characters are Ally and Zack. Ally has just been fired from her job as an investigative journalist for not going through the proper procedures to investigate her new story.
Zack has retired from the marines after a traumatic experience in Afghanistan. He has returned home to find himself and heal his mind.
Both characters are asked to work on their friend’s wedding and that’s where the story really takes off.
What inspired the storyline to your novel?
How long did it take you to write?
It took me a long time to write this novel for a few reasons. Firstly, I had two kids during the time it took to write the novel. It was extremely difficult to take care of two babies and find the time needed to write. The next thing was, as it was my first novel I spent time and money having the book critiqued. I then had to re-write several times based on this. I now know how to avoid certain mistakes and pitfalls. I’m also a better writer from the mistakes I learned from in the past.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I enjoyed going through the adventure of it all and all the research I did.
What did you research the most while writing this book?
I had to research the place the book /story was set in (San Francisco), I also had to research information on the U.S Marines, Investigative Journalism and wedding planning.
For those who have not discovered your novel, how would you describe it to them to get them interested?
My novel is a real treat that will get you interested from the start. If you like romance with a bit of adventure and humour then this is the book for you.
What’s a typical writing day like for you?
It’s super busy. I have a full time job in finance and the two kids. I have to set aside time very early in the morning, and I mean like before the sun comes up, to write. I also quite often end up writing when the kids fall asleep at night. For me that is actually the best time.
Who’s your favourite character arc of all time and why?
I like Nancy Drew.
Are you working on anything new at the moment?
My writing really took off when my publishers accepted my book. I was always scared to try to be a writer because I was afraid of being rejected. I am currently working on my second novel, a series I do once a month for Channillo Digital Publishers, I write weekly articles for Outlet Magazine- an online fashion, beauty and lifestyle mag. I also do film reviews for a film website, ghost writing and writing romance novellas for a Japanese writing group. Yes, I’m busy.
What is the theme or take home message of your book?
Love really does conquer all.
